The Department is responsible for ensuring that EMT candidates are certified as competent pre-hospital health care practitioners. CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS Massachusetts law has established the requirements to qualify for certification as an EMT-B, an EMT-I, or an EMT-P. PSI issues an EMT certification card if the candidate passes the written examination, on the same day. PSI provides the candidate with the results of the written examination at the completion of the written examination. The postcard will also provide instructions for registering and scheduling the written examination. PSI sends the candidate an Eligibility postcard, which will notify the candidate that he or she has passed the practical examination. The Department transfers data electronically to PSI if the candidate passes the practical examination. The Department notifies the candidate if the candidate fails the practical examination. The candidate takes the practical examination. The candidate schedules the practical examination with an accredited training institution. The Department returns the application if the candidate is ineligible. The Department reviews and verifies the candidate’s eligibility for the examinations.
